Since I launched my BLOG, I got lots of good comments, and I thank you for that. Receiving and answering interesting comments is for me an excellent booster to the moral. I like to answer as many comments as I can because it gives me feedback and ideas and it allows me to establish personal relationship with my readers. Do you want to know why I get so many good comments? In this article, I will give you 7 TIPS TO MAKE YOUR BLOG ATTRACTIVE to your visitors. My readers essentially provide me with two main categories of comments about my blog: – those about the quality of the posts' content – those about the quality of my blog's design and look. Today I will focus on the second type of comments and give you 7 TIPS TO MAKE YOUR BLOG ATTRACTIVE and appealing.
TIP #1 SIMPLICITY
As a general rule, put yourself in the shoes of your readers before designing your blog. Even if you are not new in blogging, imagine you are, and try to remember those blogs which gave you THE BEST FIRST IMPRESSION when you opened their page. In my case, what I like is SIMPLICITY. I like a lay out that makes my life easy to walk through the blog and find information right away. Blogs that are overpacked with too many things do not attract me. I chose to OUTSOURCE the design of my blog because I wanted it to be tailor made.
TIP #2 APPEALING COLORS
Choosing the right APPEALING colors seems essential to me because it will immediately capture the visitor's attention. My preference goes to a blog with a theme that offers few but well balanced colors, which matches well together and will create a feeling of warm welcome. Colors have to be chosen to facilitate reading. For example dark background with white fonts or light background with dark fonts are good combination.
TIP #3 SINGLE TYPE OF FONTS
The choice of fonts type and colors is also important. I like to use one single type of fonts all across my blog because I feel that it gives it a “neat” aspect. I use larger size of fonts for titles. I also prefer to bold and eventually highlight important subtitles, sentences or words but keep the same type of fonts. It is my opinion that too many different types, colors and sizes of fonts will distract the reader.
TIP #4 TARGETED PICTURES
t is my opinion that putting few TARGETED PICTURES in any post is an absolute requirement. Similarly to fonts, the choice of pictures is important. I chose my pictures very carefully for each article. I systematically find them on Google Images to avoid legal issues. I select my pictures to match my keyword(s) always. However, too many pictures can also distract he reader. Finally, pictures should be placed within the post at the right spot that will best help deliver your key message(s).
TIP #5 SHORT OWNED VIDEOS
In the same spirit, videos are an essential component to your posts. They should be carefully chosen to match your topic and key message(s). You can embed videos that you download from YouTube. If you do that, I would recommend videos with large amount of views. However, most of the time, this type of video always include a link to someone else's website. If you chose to record your own video, include links to your blog or your own website(s). I recommend only one SHORT OWNED VIDEO per post to avoid losing your reader's attention, unless your post is a training one. Finally, each video should be maximum 3 to 4 minutes long maximum.
TIP #6 CLEAN SIDE BAR
The side bar is the place where you can add a lot of interesting information and links about yourself, your other websites and your contacts or friends. It is also the place where you can advertise and link to opportunities and streams of income. It is my opinion that information placed in the side bar should be carefully selected to avoid distracting the visitor. Balanced combination between text, banners and links is important. Choice of fonts and colors, as explained above, should apply.
TIP #7 POST EXCERPTS
You have basically two choices to display your posts: either to display the full post or to display only an excerpt of each article. My preference goes to the second solution because it gives my blog an initial appearance much neater to the visitor. However, if you chose that option, make sure that your first paragraph (or introduction), which is the excerpt that will appear to your visitor when they land on your home page, is written in a way that will encourage the person to continue reading. Finally, I like a picture to be displayed with each excerpt.
